What
have you been up to since speaking at SP?
I've been lock down in my studio painting for my October solo
exhibition at BLK/MRKT Gallery. Oh, also just finished a pretty
cool project for XBOX, some new screenprints & recently sent
our second book BMG TWO to the printer.
Who has been
your favorite artists who you have shown at BLK/MRKT?
There really are so many to name, but here's my favs. Jose
Parla, Tiffany Bozic, David Choe, Mike Stilkey, Ian Francis,
to name a few. They all have a very passionate approach to
the creation of their work and a unique voice.
Are there any
major plans or projects you plan to achieve over the next
few years?
Yes, stay sane while building towards art world domination.
Are you planning
any new personal shows?
Just my show at BMG, then two shows in Europe in 2008.
Anywhere else
in the world you could live aside from LA?
Definitely Sydney and maybe New York.
What percentage
of the value of a painting should you spend on a frame?
Less on the frame more on the work, artwork is what you're
buying right?
Do you prefer
your work framed?
As for paintings on canvas and panel, frames tend to confine
the work but for the most part it really depends on the piece.
Some pieces actually look better blocked in a frame, like a
window. While others may need the breathing room and integration
w/ their surroundings. I actually like to see the sides of
a canvas with the paint drooling down the sides, it tends to
reveal a bit of the process. Paper pieces in my opinion on
the other hand, most always look better in frames. I think
it has a lot to do with their fragility, also it gives the
work substance. |
