What's
been happening since speaking at the last SP in Sydney?
Lots of stuff, generally pretty busy. My first "monograph" PULPHOPE
is out in a couple of weeks and I'm working on some extended
comics projects (Battling Boy for First:Second and La Bionica
for Darguad...) as well as a number of illustration/editorial
gigs, some design work...it's been half-full to full lately.
Have you
been drawing more in recent times?
haha, no. Feel like I've been turning into Darth Vader--
a lot of negotiation lately, and business management BS which
is necessary and requires a lot of time and attention. I
think these days, it's all about waiting out the seasons--
as Rimbaud suggested, there are seasons for everything--
a season of drawing is on the horizon.
Coolest project
that you have worked on to date?
Not to be cheeky, but I have a couple pretty exciting ones
which I can't mention yet, and they're not comics. But "you'll
be the first to know..." as they say. OUtisde of that,
it's been cool doing more work for magazines-- illustration
and comics editorial. The coolest project to date is and has
always been my extended sci-fi project THB.
Any upcoming
work that is planned?
Well--here's a scoop-- I'm doing a bunch of costume and hardware
designs for Duran Duran (Virgin Comics/Records)-- a new comics
project which Duran Duran has in the works. That looks to be
interesting-- sci-fi stuff. Also-I hope to have a big announcement
for my book THB within the month...
You still living
in NYC?
Yep, on the edge of SoHo and the West Village. I'm an old-fashioned
urban hippy artist in Greenwich Village, but without the bongos
or the beret.
How is it?
Cool as always cos I know lots of good people, and there's
always stimulating stuff to do. The skyline remains superlative.
There is an alarming amount of recent urban development though,
and it is bringing in a lot of new people who look like permanent
tourists, which is a bummer. People with lots of money but
not a lot of style or manners. I want to keep NYC 100% soulled
out rather than 100% sold out. |
