In Bec's own words...
"If I couldn’t create art, I think I would curl up and die. I have always loved creating and sharing artwork. Image making is my therapy and life fuel!
I’m a self taught artist from a young age. My first exhibitions were in Nan’s kitchen on her fridge. My art practice has changed from a young girl, from drawing realistic horses over and over, to exploring digital art whilst studying graphic design, then back to traditional techniques for my work as a represented commercial illustrator, advocate with Element Eden and my personal fine art work. I’ve been exhibiting in group shows for the past five years with the aim to finally have a solo show.
My personal work, portraits of feminine beauty, has predominantly been created using pastel and colour pencil, this year I am exploring oil painting alongside by previous techniques.
2012 is my first year as a full time artist. Up until now I was creating my art and commercial illustrations part time whilst working as a full time graphic designer. 2012 has also brought about a change of scenery. Originally a country girl, moved to Melbourne for five years and have now made a new home in the Alpine Valley region of Victoria, where I can focus solely on my art and be surrounded and inspired by nature and the simple things in life.
Kelli Anderson is an artist, designer, printmaker, and tinkerer who enjoys the challenge of seeking out hidden possibility in the physical and digital world. With a sensitivity to viewer expectations, she believes that design can subvert the everyday through surreal, absurd experiences. From interactive paper projects to layered, experimental websites to a paper record player, her projects refuse to behave in the expected way.
In 2008, Kelli worked with a large group of collaborators to create a perfectly counterfeited NY Times, which caught bleary-eyed commuters off guard with stories from a progressive utopian future. She recently created a paper record player that garnered major attention from numerous media outlets including Mashable, Kottke, Slashdot, Make:, PCWorld, Wired, and NPR. In both of these instances, Kelli's goal of surprising an audience through the unexpected or absurd is evident. Kelli grew up in New Orleans and moved to NYC to attend graduate school at the Pratt Institute for fine art and art history. In 2010, she left her position at the American Museum of Natural History as a digital collections photographer to focus on independent work. Stefano De Luigi is a documentary photographer. He is a familiar contributor to many international magazines, although he is probably best known for his long term projects which include “Blanco,” visions of blindness, published by Trolley in 2010 and produced with support from WHO/ Vision 2020 and the 2007 W.E. Smith Fellowship. The multimedia Blanco has been awarded with the second prize at World Press Photo 2011.
Stefano De Luigi has won the World Press Photo three times in different categories (1998, 2007, 2009) and the Moving Walls of Soros Foundation in 2009. In 2010, the project T.I.A. on the African continent won the 1 st prize at Days Japan and the Getty Grant for Editorial Photography. Stefano De Luigi work has been regulary published on Stern, Geo, Le Monde Magazine, Sunday Time Magazine, Newsweek and The New Yorker.
Hi-ReS! was founded in 1999 by Alexandra Jugovic and Florian Schmitt after they moved to London from their native Germany.
With our original work rooted in graphic design, fine art, product design, film and music, we eventually decided to combine all these separate disciplines in one medium and started to experiment with Adobe’s Flash technology. Our first self-initiated online project, soulbath.com, garnered worldwide attention, and led to commercial work, most importantly the website for the film Requiem for a Dream by director Darren Aronofsky who we are fortunate to collaborate with to date.
We have since achieved the highest accolades for digital media including D&AD Silver, Cannes Cyberlions, Clios, One Shows, BAFTA and Webby awards. Having established strong relationships with brands such
as Dolce&Gabbana, Jägermeister, Chanel and The Economist together with more than 10 years experience in the business, we have proved we are far from getting bored, keen to push things forward, continue to make information handsome and entertainment systems radical. In 2008, we became part of the Syzygy Group.
We intend to stay small and agile in each studio but can be big with the support of our group if you need us to be. We now have studios in London and New York City and Hamburg. Tweet about this artistShare this on FacebookHi-ResWeb/Digital Agency - Londonwww.popaganda.com
One of the most prolific and recognizable artists alive today, Ron English has bombed the global landscape with unforgettable images, on the street, in museums, in movies, books and television. English coined the term POPaganda to describe his signature mash-up of high and low cultural touchstones, from superhero mythology to totems of art history, populated with his vast and constantly growing arsenal of original characters, including MC Supersized, the obese fast-food mascot featured in the hit movie “Supersize Me,” and Abraham Obama, the fusion of America’s 16th and 44th Presidents, an image widely discussed in the media as directly impacting the 2008 election. Other characters carousing through English’s art, in paintings, billboards, and sculpture include three-eyed rabbits, udderly delicious cowgirls and grinning skulls, blending stunning visuals with the bitingly humorous undertones of America’s Premier Pop Iconoclast. Alex Trochut was born in 1981 in Barcelona. Studied Graphic design at Elisava, and started working as freelance designer and illustrator in 2007.
Alex Trochut's illustrations, designs and typography take the modern notion of minimalism and flip it on its side. Trochut's work philosophy is "More is more." It is rich with elegant, brilliantly detailed executions that simultaneously convey indulgence and careful, restrained control. Trochut is driven by a desire to constantly evolve which can be seen in his eclectic body of work.
Renowned for his technically exquisite type creations and designs, Trochut attributes his special connection with typography to his grandfather Joan Trochut – a typographer and the creator of a modular typographic and ornament system built in the 40s. Alex Trochut's client's include Nike, The Rolling Stones, Nixon, British Airways, Coca-Cola, The Guardian, Non Format, Wieden + Kennedy, Saatchi and Saatchi, BBH, Fallon, and Beuatiful Decay. Heralded as the “Godfather of the Sampling Generation”, Ian Swift, has been an highly prolific figure in the London music and design scenes for over twenty years. Recognized early on by the likes of Erik Spiekermann and Neville Brody as a rising star of typography, Swifty’s unique fonts and bold sampling techniques have extended the boundaries of modern graphic design, whilst his distinctive album sleeve and club flyer designs are responsible for pioneering the UK Acid Jazz movement’s signature style.
Since his debut years at Face Magazine, Swifty has held the role of creative designer for magazines such as Straight No Chaser (The Magazine of World Jazz Jive) and Area, designed covers for countless preeminent musicians through his work with labels Talkin Loud, Mo Wax and Source 360, produced animation for television, designed a camo clothing line, as well as founded his own company Swifty Toypographix through which he has published several books.
In recent years Swifty’s commercial success has enabled him to indulge in more personal projects, pieces that make up the majority of his current touring collection. He admits that despite his clients remaining pretty liberal with design briefs over the years, he finds something infinitely satisfying in creating entirely independent works. Influenced by childhood nostalgia and drawing from a host of very “British inflated” memorabilia circa 1960, Swifty explores a variety of media such as sculpture, painting and collage in recreating images from of this diverse and turbulent period.
Swifty will be heading to Auckland with the support of our friends at the British Council. Tweet about this artistShare this on FacebookSwiftyGraphic Design - LondonTickets 1Tickets 2Tickets 3Tickets 4Blank 1Blank 2FBGoogle+TwitterInstagramMlistMlist 2Name: SEMI - MINI

Artist: Florian Schmitt - Hi-Res!
Stories are a ubiquitous component of human communication, used as parables and examples to illustrate points. Storytelling was probably one of the earliest forms of entertainment. For thousands of years, they were told, written down, illustrated and eventually turned into moving pictures. But as today's world is truly multi platform, how can we use different channels to tell one story? How can we weave the narrative into the audience narrative, create truly immersive storytelling?
Looking at some examples from past Hi-ReS! projects, we will aim to paint the bigger picture of how traditional media, new media, social media and live events can create a bigger canvas for creatives to tell their stories.

Artist: Alex Trochut, SouthSouthWest, Kelli Anderson and you.
About:
Alex Trochut
Seeing Alex Trochut’s art first-hand. That’s pretty cool. Something to tell your friends about. Hearing Alex Trochut talk about his art in person. That’s even cooler. You might even make your friends jealous. But making art with Alex Trochut? That’s not something you can share with your mates. Unless you want them to unfriend you on Facebook. And at the pub.
First they’ll smile. Haha! Good one! You and Senor Trochut making art together! Lol. Then, as realisation dawns, the grins will leak off their faces like the design on Trochut’s Beautiful Decay. And you’ll find yourself sitting alone at the bar on Friday nights. With only the memory of your shared artwork to keep you company. By all means, take part in Orcon’s Spider Art in the foyer at Semi-Permanent. Just don’t rub it in it about you and Al being BFFs.
SouthSouthWest
You’re a bomber. Yes, you. You’re a total, tagging bomber. Maybe you haven’t taken a spray-can to the artwork of SouthSouthWest quite yet, but you will. And you won’t be ashamed of yourself for doing it either. You’ll be damn proud; pointing out the splash to your mates. “Look! See that bit of paint sprayed over SouthSouthWest’s amazing design? I did that.” Don’t bother denying it. As much as you might love SouthSouthWest’s latest artwork, it’s your destiny to command a robotic spider to squirt it with paint. We even know when and where. Your unconscionable act of graffiti will take place in the foyer, next to the Orcon sign at this year’s Semi-Permanent. The authorities have been informed.

Acute Self
Acute Self is based on Marcel Duchamp's Nude Descending Staircase and investigates how a person occupies space as they move. The viewer’s movement generates a 3 dimensional geometric shape. This shape then changes its perspective as you continue to move from side to side. The viewer can experience the virtual space they have created through their movement.
Interrupt Collective investigates how we interface with the amalgamation of the digital and physical space. Acute Self uses this concept and applies it to an interactive space. The viewer is given the opportunity to investigate and interact with their own movement as well as experience how they occupy their digital and physical space.
