Sam Keene

AR / VR Lead UX Engineer at Google

Appearing at Semi Permanent Sydney 2019

Sam's fascination with the hybrid space of design and code began in the early 90s while programming games on an old Commodore 64. Years later, his work at Google continues along this intersection where he designs experiences across AR, VR, and new emerging surfaces.

In 2016 and 2017 Sam led the UX for Google’s first social VR product “Watch Together” on YouTube VR, and more recently he has been designing and building world-scale augmented reality with Google’s Geo AR team. In 2019 he published a book that delves into the design and development of interactive experiences for immersive technology (AR/VR): the Google Daydream VR Cookbook.

Previous to Google Sam worked as Lead Creative Technologist at R/GA New York working across wearables, connected devices, and AR/VR. At R/GA he worked with the Nike Innovation and Nike+ teams designing the future of the connected athlete, connected retail, and building game-changing products such as the Nike+ FuelBand. His work has won numerous industry accolades including Gold Cannes Lions, Gold One Show Awards, IXDAs, and D&ADs.
