Kaitiaki for Te Ākitai Waiohua, Adrian Pettit has a background in architecture and is part of the Mana Whenua Forum that has played an essential role in providing mātauranga (knowledge) to New Zealand’s largest infrastructure project, the City Rail Link.
The Mana Whenua Forum (MWF) has ensured that stories of people and place have been embedded into the concept designs for the two new underground stations to be built in central Auckland and the re-development of the existing station at Maungawhau.
With MWF input, the CRL design studio has crystallised a design that is not only indigenous and contemporary but wholly reflective of Auckland’s unique point of difference – namely, Ngā Mana Whenua o Tāmaki Makaurau; stories and designs representing the historic and cultural ties Mana Whenua iwi have with Tāmaki Makaurau and wider Aotearoa.
